Most people take for granted their ability to see but imagine what life would be like without vision. For the students at Oriole Beach Elementary School, they had that opportunity.

On Fri., Oct. 14, Oriole Beach Elementary hosted White Cane Day, which featured all sorts of activities related to life as a blind person.

According to UWF, the center aims to bolster Florida veteran and minority entrepreneurs by building wealth in sustainable businesses in the financial, professional, scientific services, manufacturing and transportation sectors. The project is one of only two such EDA University Centers in the state, the other being Florida A&M University. There are over 70 EDA University Centers around the country.

If you were lucky enough to have your grandparents in your life, you probably remember them teaching you things or just being there for you as you grew up.

That model of helping to raise kids is being translated to area schools in the form of the foster grandparent program.

Kada Beihl knows people who have battled suicidal thoughts, which is why being a part of the Hope Squad at Navarre High School means a little more to the Raider senior.

Beihl wants students to know that she and others like her in the Hope Squad are here to help if they need it.

For many years, if you were a student who wanted to take a certain class that wasn’t offered at your school, then you were simply out of luck. But with broadcast classrooms, Santa Rosa County District Schools has given students that chance.

According to a UWF press release, the gift will support the Center for Leadership’s mission to develop effective leaders with a sense of personal authenticity and character, social and civic awareness and the ethical courage required to make positive change in the modern world.

Moving as a child can be a tough transition, especially if you are from a military family and have to move a lot.

With their new Anchored4Life program, Navarre High School hopes to ease the burden of that transition and provide the right foundation for students to succeed during the school year.

Stapleton spent the last 26 years at Navarre High, mostly as an art teacher and later as a department chair. She was the third person hired at the school when it first opened back in 1996.
