‘The Avalon Thing’: Teacher of year says school is like family at Avalon Middle

Many schools talk about being a family of students and staff. But at Avalon Middle School, they truly are. Danita Johnson, Avalon Middle’s teacher of the year, sees herself as a member of that family. Johnson, who has taught in both Florida and Kentucky, has spent the past 30 years as both a teacher and an administrator.
Danita Johnson is Avalon Middle School’s Teacher of the Year. Even though she has 30 years of experience in the education field, this is the first time she has been recognized as teacher of the year.
