On Sept. 16, the University of Alabama System Board of Trustees recommended and unanimously approved the appointment of Dr. Charles L. Karr to president of The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH). Karr is a native of Gulf Breeze and has been in the University of Alabama System for the better part of three decades.

After the Navarre Raiders added another championship in girls weightlifting a handful of years ago, head coach Garrett Bagley had an extra medal and knew exactly who he wanted to give it to. The decision to give it to John, a long-time sportswriter at the Navarre Press, was without question.

The king will be named at Friday’s pep rally and the queen will be announced at the football game between Navarre and Leon Friday night at Bennett C. Russell Stadium.

Seeing yourself on the big screen or on television is a lifelong dream for many, and one Navarre resident is pursuing that dream.

Twanetta Pope, 25, has always loved movies and TV. She moved to Navarre when she was seven, graduating from Navarre High School in 2015.

At the Sept. 11 Memorial Stair Climb, firefighters had to climb 110 floors worth of stairs in honor of the first responders who climbed the stairwells of the World Trade Center 21 years ago. The firefighters came from across Northwest Florida. Navarre Beach, Holley Navarre, Midway, Pensacola, Panama City, Crestview and a few other fire departments were present.

For most people, skating is just another fun activity to do. For David Weber, it is a lifestyle.

Weber, who owns Weber’s Skate World in Milton, has been skating for 43 years and is the coach for the Emerald Coast Speed Team, which features about 100 skaters of various ages.

While a number of movies and television shows have been filmed in Pensacola and around Northwest Florida, very few have attempted to capture the community in which they were filming.

That’s what “Sacred Hart,” a film that just wrapped up principal photography, is attempting to do.

On Tuesday, Sept. 13, a 2013 Navarre High School graduate will officially become a published author.
