The memorial to Elizabeth Dawn Allmon, a homeless woman better known around Navarre as the ‘bike lady,’ has sat alongside U.S. Highway 98 for well over a decade. At times the memorial, which is a white bike with flowers around it and a plaque telling who Allmon was, has fallen into disrepair.

When most people want to experience an authentic experience in another culture, they usually have to get on a plane and fly far away to a foreign destination. Navarre’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) held a training session Sunday, March 3, at Holley Navarre Fire District Station 45. The training session was part of a six-session training course to prepare residents of Santa Rosa County for emergencies and how they can help their community.

Fuel specialists play an important role in the U.S. military. They manage, operate and maintain fuel storage and dispensing facilities. In the Air Force, this mostly pertains to vehicles and aircraft, both on the ground and in mid-flight. They also help maintain gas stations on the bases they are assigned, test fuel samples for quality and maintain liquid oxygen. In essence, without them, the military is at a standstill.

Northwest Airlines Flight 85 was making a routine flight from Detroit, Michigan, to Narita, Chiba, Japan Oct. 9, 2002. Santa Rosa County Animal Services has launched 2024-2025 kennel sponsorships, a fundraising effort to help with medical care, foster support, microchip and rabies clinic, spay/neuter programs, and community outreach.

A Milton man is counting more than just his blessings after he won a grand prize from the Florida lottery. Bernard Waters, 63, claimed the $5 million top prize from the $20 Monopoly Doubler Scratch Off game this month. According to the Florida lottery, Waters chose to receive his winnings as a one-time lump-sum payment of $3,994,698.

In 2023, Santa Rosa County 4-H was recognized for their work with an organization which provides services to those who have been trafficked. This month, the organizations officially received their plaque for a statewide 4-H award.

To improve efficiency and communications, Santa Rosa County is looking to consolidate dispatch for emergency services such Fire, EMS, and Law Enforcement under one roof.
