About 6 years ago, local musician and entrepreneur Jonathan Ivey had an epiphany idea for a play on words product for northwest Florida.

This October, his dream became a reality when he launched his own orange-lavender-flavored soda called Pensa-Cola.

This year, Jimmie Jones and family were selected as the 2022 Outstanding Farm Family of the Year for Santa Rosa County. They were recognized at the Farm Tour on Wed., Oct. 5.

Its no secret the US military is heavily involved in Northwest Florida. Many Active duty, as well as retired, airmen and sailors call the region home.

With all these service members living in one area, it means local businesses do what they can to have them as customers. For local pharmacies, this means working directly with military affiliated services and programs.

A new fast-casual restaurant that specializes in chicken is coming to Navarre and is set to open Oct. 31.

Slim Chickens is located at 8006 Navarre Parkway, right across from the Navarre Post Office.

According to their website, the Slim Chickens menu offers fresh cooked to order chicken tenders, wings, 17 different house sauces to try, wraps, chicken & waffles, a signature Cayenne Ranch chicken sandwich and fresh salads, authentic sides, iced teas (sweet, unsweet, raspberry, peach), lemonade. And it only takes a few minutes to get a fresh hot meal.

On Sept. 25, Preserve Navarre held its first public meeting in several months.

At the meeting, Wes Siler, director of Preserve Navarre, unveiled the proposed city charter for a City of Navarre Beach.

A change in the land development code now allows CEFCO to move forward with building a gas station and convenience store in Navarre at High School Boulevard and Highway 87 South after Santa Rosa County Planning and Zoning approved the plan on Sept. 12.

According to Santa Rosa County Community Planning, Zoning, and Development Director Shawn Ward, the County Commissioners adopted a new land development code in August 2021, which eliminated the requirement for 500 feet between residential housing and underground fuel tank storage.

Florida residents and businesses likely will get hit with higher electric bills in 2023 as utilities continue to struggle with increased costs of natural gas.

Florida Power & Light, Duke Energy Florida and Tampa Electric Co. filed petitions Friday at the state Public Service Commission that detailed expected costs in 2023.
