The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is sharing the reminder that sea turtles are starting to nest on our beaches. Residents and visitors can play a big part in helping to protect vulnerable nesting sea turtles this spring and summer while visiting Florida’s coastal habitats.

With nesting season underway for shorebirds, seabirds and wading birds, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is sharing tips with beachgoers on how to help protect our waterbirds while enjoying the shore.

The beach is the focal point for northwest Florida, and especially Navarre. People from across the U.S. and world come to the Emerald Coast to visit, including those who have disabilities or handicaps. Whenever they want to enjoy the sand and water, they have to do so from a distance due to a lack of access.

Gulf Islands National Seashore hosted 8.2 million recreational visits, making it the fifth most visited National Park Service (NPS) managed site.

There soon may be more reef sites from Navarre Beach to Casino Beach (Pensacola Beach), as part of an effort to provide more recreational opportunities for visitors and locals alike.

On Feb. 23, a great white shark washed ashore on Navarre Beach. The sight of a 15-foot shark, particularly a species as famous as the great white, garnered much attention on social media and throughout the Navarre community.
