Out and About

Downtown Cinema Plus in Fort Walton Beach, owned by Navarre entrepreneur, James Coleman, is showing “12 Strong” at 7 p.m. for a week beginning tomorrow, Friday, March 30. “12 Strong” tells the story of the first Special Forces team deployed to Afghanistan after 9/11. A lot of our local airmen were there before and after this team was in Afghanistan and either met or worked alongside or in support of these brave men. It is an awesome movie and Downtown Cinema Plus is a fun place to go see movie and have dinner at the same time. Also, you can affordably rent the movie theater for birthday parties, bachelor/bachelorette parties and more. Check out their website at www.downtowncinemaplus.com.

Heart of Navarre storage units approved

Marylou Smiedendorf: Just what we need…more ugly storage places

Robert Boston: One cannot make this putrid lurid crap of Navarre worse…and then it happens, an elected rep asks HIS appointed rep to back up his request to change zoning for profit and against the very plan they SPENT TAXPAYERS $ ON

Nick Bibbins: Can we get a couple more dollar stores along with a few more junkyards as well? I’ve heard this really ups the home value of gulf shore towns. I bet it would bring in more tourist money too! Who doesn’t want to go to the most relaxing place with the most storage units?

Patrick Deason: I understand your concerns, but here’s the great thing about storage units. They generate income. (Taxes) They don’t pollute. They’re cheaply built and when that property becomes more valuable, they can be easily bulldozed. They are never built in wildlife habitat zones, but virtually always on busy roadways. They clientele is almost always lower or middle class holding on to their possessions, perceived value or otherwise. If their appearance offends you, go move into a gated community. (Unless you’re in the economic class that needs storage units.)

Rod Danner: There is more involved with the local politics here such as, the Commissioner from the District involved abstaining (from the vote), another Commissioner being a principal in the business, etc. The problem is not necessarily the storage units themselves but the way the variance was passed, the politics and location.

Rebecca Palmes Moore Ward: Very sad, I guess the Commissioners don’t read or don’t care about the emails they get!

Gulf Breeze students join national gun protest

Jeff Gilley: This generation of tide pod eaters…such a bunch of weak minded children

Liberty Ann Bruce: Coming from the generation that punished children by putting soap in their mouths.

Charlie Palocy: these kids are not taught that we all aren’t winners and there will always be losers. They can’t defend themselves, instead they offend themselves.

Jason Tebo: Maybe kids should be nicer to each other and there wouldn’t be all these kids killing themselves because they are bullied.

John Luberto: Maybe being bullied, or ostracized is what led him to that decision.

Jared Bumgardner: As a student at UWF I love and support other local students standing up for our/their lives. For all those reactions: while you may be tempted to judge us/them based on your political beliefs, at the end of the day its OUR lives that are in danger. Remind yourself just who exactly is most affected by this curse of school shootings. If it’s not you then maybe hush up and listen to those of us who are.

Jonathan Campbell: The only people affected so far are people that believe in the Constitutional Bill of Rights. Criminals haven’t been affected one bit. Kids are just that, kids. And it’s the adults responsibility to protect them without violating our Constitution. Would you be willing to give up your Fourth Amendment to give up the Second? That’s what it will take and then criminals who do all the shootings will still have guns.

Jerry C. Cummings: Jared you are being “educated” (socially engineered and indoctrinated) to believe the “stuff” that you are spouting. You have NO idea that you are a tool being used to take away the very rights you are using to “protest” those rights. YOUR LIVES have been put in the jeopardy by the very people who are urging, paying you to protest. You have been made “sitting ducks” by those who now encourage you to shriek about being affected BY that very REMOVAL of anyone’s ability to protect you. Now – you think you can change our Constitution because you have been sacrificed to an evil agenda – much like the Jews in Germany.

Michele Sanderson: WELL SAID MR. Jerry C. Cummings. These kids are targets as he stated for them to have no rights as adults. I think they need to stop standing up and sit down in History class.

Robert Boston: So it’s interesting, your argument is based on your use of protected right, freedom of assembly and speech, yet it’s right removing another right from others…truly, do you not UNDERSTAND the flaw in your thinking?

Jason Tebo: Give it six months and they’ll be marching for something new that the media tells them to.

Swimmers rescued on Navarre Beach

Craig Turok Traweek: To the local surfer congratulations for being in the right place at the right time and making the decision to act. With that said I am extremely fed up with Navarre lifeguard management. Every summer this story can and will be repeated several times. Yesterday and everyday this summer the lifeguards leave the beach before 5 o’clock when the beach is still packed with swimmers. When is enough going to be enough? If it wasn’t for the local surf community in Navarre there would have been several drownings over the years. Lifeguards should be on duty until dark. Our/my taxes should be used to provide the funding to protect locals and tourists until dark.

Larry Sims: Agree with you Craig. The lifeguards were dumped on the beach water department several years ago. The Navarre Beach Fire Dept. is willing to “take over” the beach lifeguards but have run into several snags from the County. My understanding is the Fire Dept. was planning on giving the lifeguards proper/better training and looking into longer daylight coverage. But…

Carolann Vandervest Holman: My cousin lost his life last night. He was one that tried to rescue the teens.

Kristen Carlson Kirkpatrick: My step brother is the one that drowned after trying to help.

Nicole Smith Penton: Prayers for your family

Kristen Carlson Kirkpatrick: Thank you for that, he died a hero.

FY2018 Federal Appropriations

Congress just voted to spend $1.3 trillion of OUR money on a bill they didn’t even have time to read. I am proud to see that my congressman, Rep. Matt Gaetz, took a stand for sanity and voted ‘No.’ I heard House Speaker Ryan say that the bill was good for the military. I totally support our troops, but this bill goes against almost everything else that Republicans and President Trump promised. The American people want a secure border, and we are tired of our tax money going to Planned Parenthood, sanctuary cities, welfare for illegal immigrants, and wasteful spending. The omnibus bill funds sanctuary cities, it funds Planned Parenthood, it does not allow a border wall to be built, and it takes a big bite out of our Second Amendment. This bill was over 2,200 pages long, and was released less than 24 hours before the House voted. Who thought it was a good idea for Congress to vote on a bill they haven’t read? That’s ridiculous. I am proud that my congressman, Matt Gaetz voted no. He did the right thing!

How do you know?

Does society have people that conspire against another person or persons to get a desired result? In the 2012 elections Harry Reid said Mitt Romney didn’t pay his taxes creating a false type of democrat conspiracy which Harry later admitted it (a lie) was used to re-elect Obama. Obama was caught on an open mic saying to a Russian envoy that “after the election I’ll have more leeway” for what, a conspiracy, how do you know? The people involved won’t admit to it. The FBI and DOJ have been in the tank supporting democrats and democrat views, again how do you know? A large portion of the democrat party have been after our Constitution’s Second Amendment and even recently expressed a government buy-back program of legal guns. Not once did democrats express any interest during any police officers’ shooting death by criminals to go after any illegal “Black Lives Matter” members guns who was calling for these officer shootings. At some point past and current actions indicate future intentions of coming events. What about our Constitution’s Bill of Rights First Amendment regarding religion and free speech, has religion been successfully removed from society and is free speech now under attack? Broward County, Florida, site of the Parkland school shooting, is heavily democrat so all of its local government is democrat including Sheriff Scott Israel. It has been reported these four additional officers were given “stand in place” orders, going against all the written instructions to enter & confront the shooter regarding school shootings. Wasn’t the Ferguson, Missouri, National Guard given “stand down” orders by democrat Gov. Jeremiah W. Nixon allowing some of the city’s businesses to be burned risking lives. Chicago’s (U.S. shooting capital) democrat mayor Rahm Emanuel (Obama Chief of Staff) once used a phrase being “never let a serious crisis go to waste.” But with the many failures of the FBI (also does background checks), local police and local democrat government does this give new meaning to this phrase when this “serious crisis” was maybe created by intentionally looking the other way to allow this “serious crisis” to happen to push their democrat anti-gun agenda? How do you know? At some point past and current actions indicate future intentions of coming events.
