Navarre High School cadets place 12th at Nationals

orienteering-2The Navarre High School NJROTC Orienteering Team took home 12th place overall at the national competition in Elberton, Ga. March 8 and 9. A total of 22 schools and 331 students from as far away as California competed.

Orienteering, the sport of finding one’s way in unfamiliar territory with nothing but a map and a compass, is an activity in which NJROTC cadets from all over the country participate. Cadets from Navarre ran different courses spanning several levels of difficulty and distance. Accuracy and speed are critical as the cadets attack and locate their points in an efficient manner.

“Last year was our first trip to the big dance and we came away with no hardware and a little smarter,” NHS Master Chief Jimmy Ethridge said. “This year a few of our cadets got to do a little dancing.”
