Veteran aided by service dog now returns the favor

SAN ANTONIO (AP) — Former Sgt. William Cole’s 29 months as a special operations soldier in Iraq and Afghanistan took its toll, leaving him with a traumatic brain injury, post-traumatic stress disorder and memories of a lost buddy he befriended in Ranger school.

William Cole, a medically retired Army Ranger, carries his service dog, Hank, a 2 year-old Labrador, down the stairs for a walk outside of Cole’s home in San Antonio, Texas. Hank was recently hit by a car and suffered injuries that make it painful for him to walk down the stairs of Cole’s apartment complex. Cole and Hank are inseparable, and Cole credits Hank with saving his life when he was suffering from PTSD and other injuries suffered during his tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan.
