Turbulent transition at pier

TC’s Coastal Porch, LLC took over operation of Navarre Beach Fishing Pier Jan. 1, following what one partner described as an eventful transition.  Santa Rosa deputies responded to the county-owned pier four times Dec. 28 after previous contractor Pier, Inc.’s employees were observed using sledgehammers to demolish wooden structures on the deck.  Although one commissioner called for prosecution in the matter, two county officials later decided the demolition had been within the rights of the contractor.
Legal and safety concerns were raised after wooden structures were demolished at the pier. Splintered wood and boards with exposed nails were left in accessible public areas.
