All eyes are on a developing system currently near the Yucatan Peninsula forecast to emerge into the Gulf of Mexico as early as Monday. The system is slated to strengthen and impact the northeastern Gulf Coast, including the possibility of a landfall somewhere in the Panhandle of Florida.
It is too soon to forecast an exact location or even strength of the impacts, but we are closely monitoring the latest forecast updates.
Currently, the National Hurricane Center is using an “area of development” which differs from a forecast track because there is not a center of circulation as of yet.
However, the warm Gulf waters will most likely intensify the storm. While there are many unknowns, it is time to prepare, as once the storm is in the Gulf things move quickly. Some models indicate impacts could be felt as early as Thursday.
We urge you to monitor this storm and have your hurricane plan in place. We will be following this developing situation and posting updates as needed.
