Teenager remains calm during chaos, helps save bus driver

Emily Jones, an eighth grader at Avalon Middle School, was riding the bus home down U.S. Highway 90 on a Sept. 17, when her bus driver, Roberta Temple, started feeling tightness in her chest.

Temple pulled over in a Dunkin’ Donuts plaza to ensure the safety of about 70 middle schoolers on her bus. She reached for the radio but couldn’t get words out.

Eighth grader at Avalon Middle School, Emily Jones, was recognized for her heroic efforts helping her bus driver get the help she needed when she had difficulty breathing.
