Sweet scallops served at Where Y’at Seafood

| Staff Reporters
Looking for the freshest seafood on the Gulf Coast? Or maybe you’re craving some authentic New Orleans cuisine? Make your way on down to Where Y’at Seafood Market & Restaurant, where you can find local seafood sourced straight from our neighborhood and taste delicious food that will bring you back to Bourbon Street.

Crawfish season is winding down, but Where Y’at still carries the best crawfish on the Emerald Coast. Come taste for yourself while season is still in session.

Try the newest addition at Where Y’at – Dry-Packed Scallops from New Bedford, Massachusetts. These delicious delicacies are packed with their own natural juices with no preservatives and kept frozen. The scallops have a briny, sweet and nutty flavor and can be bought cooked at the restaurant or bought fresh from the market for you to cook at home.

The restaurant has partnered with local fishermen to provide their customers with the freshest seafood possible. You can now eat fish caught locally THAT DAY at Where Y’at Seafood.

Another option at Where Y’at is “Cook Your Catch.” After a long day of fishing, you can bring your fish directly to the restaurant and they will cook it for you for simply $8/person. Sides can be purchased a-la-carte to go along with your meal.

It is definitely a family affair, says owner Paul Ruiz. His son Courtney Lumpkin manages the kitchen for the restaurant and son Will Lumpkin manages the seafood market.

Plenty of fresh seafood items are available in the market, including Alaskan halibut and swordfish. Copper River Alaskan Sockeye Salmon is in full swing with salmon being flown in from Alaska.

“Summertime is prime time for Gulf fish. We’re seeing a lot of local Grouper, Cobia, Red Snapper and Trigger Fish,” said Lumpkin.

At the market, you’ll also find Florida fresh stone crab, frozen snow crab, Dungeness crab, smoked tuna dip, oysters and fresh bay shrimp out of Pensacola Bay. Blue crab has had a slow start again.

With oyster season dwindling down for the summer, Where Y’at is bringing in northern oysters on the half shell from Prince Edward Island, Canada and Boston, Mass.

Everything screams local with Where Y’at. From sourcing fish, crab and shrimp directly from Emerald Coast fishermen to carrying local hot sauces, dip and products from Louisiana, Where Y’at Seafood loves working with its community members.

And the food is all made from scratch. That’s how you know it’s fresh and delicious. All their sauces, boudin, egg rolls, gumbo, etouffee, red beans and corn and crab soup are made from scratch in the kitchen. They bring in their Leidenheimer French Bread straight from NOLA for po’boys with Patton’s Hot Sausage. This food is authentic Cajun and you have to taste it for yourself.

Where Y’at offers catering for any type of party from weddings and rehearsal dinners to birthdays, retirements and office parties. They serve seafood boils with crab legs, shrimp and crawfish (when it’s in season), jambalaya, etouffee, gumbo and much more. Where Y’at can bring anything from their menu to your next party in bulk. Customize your catering orders by choosing your favorites a-la-carte.

Come check out their bar inside the restaurant, where you can get beer and wine. The large covered outdoor area can be used for parties and live music. There is also indoor seating at the restaurant. If you are interested in having a party, event or wedding rehearsal dinner at their event space, call 833-332-8328 and press option 6 for catering.

Enjoy live music on the weekend from talented musicians like Robert Wayne Walkup, a local Navarre guitarist and songwriter who plays a collection of country and his own originals, or David “Jukebox” Butler, who plays just about any song you can think of on the piano.

Stay tuned to the restaurant’s Facebook for their upcoming events and live music schedule.
