Panhandle Butterfly House to open

The Panhandle Butterfly House at Navarre Park on U.S. Highway 98 will be open to the public from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. April 19. The grounds have been impeccably groomed, the docents have been trained, and several improvements have been made to the vivarium. All that is needed are the future inhabitants. The first batch of butterflies will be released in the vivarium today, Thursday April 18.

The dreaded Indo-Pacific Lionfish have been spotted in local Gulf Islands National Seashore waters, and park officials are exploring the idea to allow capturing by spearfishing, something which has traditionally not been allowed by the National Park Service within park waters other than Biscayne National Park in south Florida.

City of Milton allows alcohol downtown on Sundays

Recently the City of Milton enacted an ordinance establishing a downtown entertainment district to be known as the City of Milton Tourist Development District. Now the council has approved serving alcohol within that area on Sundays, breaking a long-standing position against alcohol.
