World Class Pageantry held its fourth scholarship pageant on April 16, 2022, and four young women were crowned in this year’s inaugural Miss Gulf Breeze Florida 2022 and Miss Pensacola Beach Florida 2022 pageant hosted by the Miss Santa Rosa County 2021-2022 queens, Miss Navarre Florida 2022 queen, and Miss Escambia County 2021- 2022 queens.
Santa Rosa County has announced the much-anticipated ribbon cutting of Navarre Park. The ceremony will take place at 9 a.m. on Sat., Apr. 30 at Navarre Park, 8543 Navarre Parkway. Santa Rosa County began redeveloping the existing Navarre Park in October 2020 to create a top-notch recreational experience for all ages and abilities.
On April 26 and 27, Santa Rosa County Fairgrounds will host the Northwest Florida Construction Career Days.
The event will bring around 900 high school students from Escambia, Santa Rosa, and Okaloosa County over the two days to give them a look at career opportunities in the transportation and construction industries.
Justice is being served for the stray mule that was shot and killed on Tuesday, April 12. Philip Alan Hayes has been charged with felony for torturing or inflicting pain, serious injury, or death on an animal, as well as a misdemeanor for the inhumane slaughter of livestock. Hayes turned himself in to the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office around 10 p.m. on Monday, April 18, almost a week after the incident on Deaton Bridge Road in Milton. Hayes was released just after midnight.
Patricia “Trish” Droogsma taught in Santa Rosa County for going on 37 years. This year, she was Santa Rosa High School’s Teacher of the Year—for the second time.
Unfortunately, after a battle with cancer, she passed away on March 2, 2022. Her memorial service took place on April 7, 2022.
A controlled burn turned into a wildfire on Friday, April 8, 2022. Firefighters with the Florida Forest Service’s Blackwater Forestry Center, in addition to other departments, fought a wildfire near Dickerson City Road at Garcon Point in Santa Rosa County beginning early on Friday afternoon.
Holley-Navarre Intermediate would like to congratulate fifth grader, Sakura Plambeck, for winning FIRST PLACE in the annual Fifth Grade Essay Contest sponsored by Retired Educators of Florida. She will now represent Santa Rosa County in the District 1 contest, which includes all the central time zones in Florida.
Santa Rosa County is doing comparatively well in its unemployment rates. The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity released Florida’s unemployment rates for February 2022, including the state average and the numbers for each county.
The body of missing Navarre woman, Cassie Carli, has been recovered in St. Clair County, Alabama during the execution of a search warrant. She was found in a barn in a shallow grave according to Santa Rosa County Sheriff Bob Johnson.
