Residents invited to hear Santa Rosa County Quality of Life Survey results

Is Santa Rosa County a good place to live? Is it headed in the right direction? What are its strengths, and what are its challenges?

Results of the first-ever Santa Rosa County Quality of Life Survey, conducted last year by Mason Dixon Polling & Strategy, will try to answer those and other questions. Pensacola businessman, philanthropist, and consultant Quint Studer will share survey results at a CivicCon Town Hall from 6-7:30 p.m. Monday, April 18, in the County Commission Chambers in the Santa Rosa County Administrative Building, 6495 Caroline St., Milton.

Freezing temperatures coming to Santa Rosa County this weekend

Bundle up Navarre, it’s going to get cold this weekend.

A strong cold front will make its way through Northwest Florida Friday night into Saturday morning bringing a chance of thunderstorms across the area including potential for damaging winds, large hail, and a couple tornadoes.

A Freeze Warning is in effect from 9 p.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday. A Wind Advisory remains in effect from midnight Friday to 6 p.m. Saturday. Bring in plants, secure outdoor objects and use extra caution when driving.

Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office to hold K-9 Unit demonstrations at county schools

Beginning this Mon., Mar. 14, the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit will be hosting the USPCA Region 1 Field Trials here in Santa Rosa County. The Trials are a week-long event which is a certification and a competition. Activities start Mon., 8:00 am at Gulf Breeze High School. This day will consist of obedience and agility. Tues., 8:00 am at GBHS, there will be suspect area searches. Wednesday will be apprehension work. Thursday morning the apprehension work will continue until completed. All events are open to the public.

Santa Rosa County cold weather shelter open Friday, Feb. 18 and Saturday, Feb. 19

The cold weather shelter for the homeless and/or heatless will open Fri., Feb. 18 and Sat., Feb. 19 at Ferris Hill Baptist Church, 6848 Chaffin St. in Milton.

Those who would like to stay at the shelter must arrive between 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. Only service animals (with verification of rabies vaccination) are permitted to stay with guests. No one will be admitted after 8:30 p.m. unless brought in by law enforcement. The shelter closes at 7 a.m. each morning.

Meet Santa Rosa County attorney, Tom Dannheisser

After a year of internal transitions, Santa Rosa County has a new – and old – attorney in place. Tom Dannheisser, county attorney for more than 20 years, has stepped back into that role after serving as a county and circuit judge.

Santa Rosa County receives $499,075 Green Infrastructure Grant

At the Nov. 9 Commission Regular Meeting, the Santa Rosa County Board of County Commissioners approved to accept a $499,075 award from the EPA Gulf of Mexico Division’s Healthy and Resilient Gulf of Mexico in the category for Building Community Resilience Through the Reduction and Prevention of Nonpoint Source Pollution.
