Each year hundreds of people make their winter home in Florida and are, therefore, dubbed “Snowbirds.” They come in the winter months for many reasons, maybe to escape the cold and snow back home for warmer temperatures, to visit Florida when the beaches aren’t crowded with tourists or to spend some time gazing out over the water as the sun sets on Navarre Beach. Whatever the reason, Navarre welcomes these snowbirds to their temporary home-away-from-home.
State Rep. Doug Broxson, R-Gulf Breeze, on Jan. 22 introduced House Bill 431 that would seek the development of oil and gas resources specifically in the Blackwater River State Forest.

Jay Warren is the latest Navarre High School player recruited to play football at the highest level of college competition. The senior running back last week signed a national letter-of-intent to play at Florida Atlantic University, joining 2012 teammate Jordan Leggett and former Raiders Sterling Lovelady and Billy Mitchell at NCAA Football Bowl Series (formerly known as Division I) programs.
The 2012 Navarre High School football team had plenty to celebrate. Two months after the school’s greatest gridiron season yet ended with a state semifinal loss to Gainesville, the Raiders and their supporters could set aside that disappointment and appreciate their accomplishments.
