Lady Raiders soccer: Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes you tie

This time of the year every game is a challenge, according to Navarre girls’ soccer coach Rob Simon. In a week of non-district matchups, the Raiders beat a very tough Choctawhatchee team on Monday Jan. 7, tied Pensacola Catholic on Tuesday Jan. 8 and succumbed to West Florida after leading the game for the first 60 minutes on Friday, Jan. 11.

Fingall gets triple-double in rout of Tate

Navarre freshman Nadia Fingall recorded a triple-double and the Lady Raiders played their most complete basketball game of the season Friday in a 59-32 rout of visiting Tate High School.

Boys’ soccer side wins two of three

Navarre High School’s boys’ soccer team played three games last week, winning against West Florida and Pensacola Catholic and losing to Choctawhatchee. Raiders coach Ken MacDonald substituted freely in each game attempting to rest several injured players before next week’s district tournament.

Milder winter leads to lower manatee mortality

Researchers with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) documented fewer manatee deaths in 2012 than in the previous three years, as milder winter temperatures led to significantly less cold-related mortality. The FWC recorded 392 manatee carcasses in state waters last year, of which a quarter was determined to be from human-related causes.

Waste Management responds to driver complaint

On Jan. 8, a Waste Management truck driver was recorded dumping both regular trash and recyclables into the same truck on Harvest Village Court in Navarre even though recyclables are supposed to be picked up separately.
