Stone-crab harvest down, prices way up this year

MARATHON — In 46 years as a commercial fisherman, Gary Graves said he has never seen a stone crab harvest season as poor as this one. Graves, who runs Keys Fisheries in Marathon — the main supplier for Joe’s Stone Crab in Miami Beach — says his catches are down 40 percent since the season opened Oct 15.

Teams from Navarre, Pace and Pine Forest tied for first with 20 points each. Milton placed fourth with 15 points.

Southern Raceway in Milton is returning to the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series for the 2013 season. Southern Raceway officials are currently putting together a schedule for their Crate Late Model Division during the 27-week season for the series that began March 25 and runs through Sept. 29.
