E-2C Hawkeye completes museum’s collection

A five-person crew flew a newly-painted E-2C Hawkeye May 9 from Norfolk, Va., to NAS Pensacola. It was the plane’s final flight and shortly after it landed it was presented to the National Naval Aviation Museum. The Hawkeye was the only Navy Fleet aircraft not on display at the museum.

State Reps. Mike Hill and Doug Broxson partnered May 8 with Farm Share, a nationwide relief organization, to distribute food and supplies to Santa Rosa County residents impacted by the flood. Even before the distribution officially began at 10 a.m., cars were lining up in the Winn Dixie parking lot waiting to receive food and supplies.

Members of the Navarre Beach Fire Department gathered Saturday around a new flag pole with Lujuana Pickett, the mother of firefighter Allen Acree, who died in a motorcycle wreck in May 2013. The firefighters had not told Pickett the details about the dedication ceremony for the new flag pole.

Juries convict local men for unrelated sex crimes

Santa Rosa County juries last week convicted two local men of child sex-related charges in separate cases. According to State Attorney William Eddins Office, 56-year-old Claude Russell Ratliff was found guilty May 9 of Lewd or Lascivious Molestation stemming from an August 2012 incident at Ratliff’s home in Milton. He is scheduled for sentencing July 8 and faces a minimum mandatory sentence of 25 years in prison.

Disaster Recovery Center opens to little fanfare

After the federal disaster declaration was made May 6, Santa Rosa County requested Disaster Recovery Centers be opened as quickly as possible, and the first one opened Saturday in the Gulf Breeze Recreation Center. During the first 30 minutes, only about two dozen residents had stopped by seeking assistance.
