5k to aid mobility

The first Run, Walk or Roll Mobility 5k will be held at 8 a.m., March 29 on Navarre Beach and organizer David Raney said the event is being held to help folks locally and worldwide who are need of assistive devices to increase their mobility.

Help available for the hurting

Experts may disagree on the exact percentage but some estimate as many as 50 percent of marriages in America end in divorce or separation. For area residents going through the painful experience, help is available from an international program called DivorceCare, which is hosted locally by the First Baptist Church of Navarre.

Spring forward with fire safety

Setting our clocks forward an hour before we go to bed Saturday night for Daylight Savings Time doesn’t have to just be a reminder of the hour of sleep we will lose. Joe Early, fire inspector with the Holley-Navarre Fire District, wants to remind residents that springing forward is also a good time to change the batteries in smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors.

‘Who’ knew

The Navarre Library joined others in the county and across the country in celebrating Dr. Seuss’ birthday. Theodor Seuss Geisel was born March 2, 1904 in Springfield, Mass., and the library had special displays and activities ready for the young and young-at-heart Friday, Saturday and Monday.

Sea turtle conservation center closes for improvements

The Navarre Beach Sea Turtle Conservation Center (NBSTCC) closed its doors Saturday in preparation for construction of a new pool and observation deck and improvements to the interpretative portion of the center. Volunteers completed inventory and locked the doors shortly after 2 p.m.
