The Raiders traveled to Milton on April 8 and lost a nail biter, 2 – 1. The Raider offense only managed 3 hits in the game. Hanna Stapleton pitched five strong innings for the Raiders and gave up only one hit and no runs. The Raiders took a one run lead into the sixth inning. Coach Kim Smith brought Taelor Smith in to pitch in the bottom of the sixth inning. Smith hit the first batter she faced and then gave up a game winning home run to the next batter.Pier enforces no pets rule

Science station event embraces autism

Charlene Mauro, project director of the Marine Science Station, saw a need in the community for an event welcoming families with autism spectral disorders and started Autism OdysSea, first held in 2013. About 150 children and their families, totaling 450 people, attended the second annual event held April 12.

After a complaint from William Phillips to Santa Rosa County Commission Chairman Jim Melvin, the county asked operators of the Navarre Beach Fishing Pier to close down a bar opened March 15 until the facility’s restaurant is up and running.
Mobile sea lab provides hands-on learning for kids

The Navarre Beach Marine Science Station hosted the Gulf Coast Marine Specimen Lab April 12. Hundreds of kids and adults delighted in touching starfish, sea urchins and other sea life on display in the traveling exhibit, which aims to teach families about marine animals.

More thas 50 locals attended the first-ever Santa Rosa County Commission meeting held at the Tiger Point Community Center April 10. A majority of attendees were residents from the south end of the county, although several drove from Milton and Pace to speak out on current issues.

Raider Girls finish 5, boys 7 in Andrews Invitational

Strong performances in the hurdles and jumping events secured the Lady Raiders 42 points and a fifth place finish in the Andrews Invitational, April 4 in Gulf Breeze. The Raiders finished seven with 32.5 points and were led by a first place finish for Roman Spear in the Pole Vault and a second place finish by Christian Gill in the Shot Put.
