Warmer temperatures mean more and more motorcycles will travel down highways, city streets and county roads across northwest Florida. Unfortunately, more bikes on the road also mean a greater likelihood of car-motorcycle collisions.

Local residents and out-of-town visitors started lining Gulf Boulevard more than three hours before the start of Saturday’s 28th Annual Navarre Beach Mardi Gras parade hosted by the Navarre Krewe of Jesters. Sunny skies, warm temperatures and a parade with more than 50 entries were a perfect combination for what Krewe of Jester’s President Charlene Tremor called, “an amazing parade.”

Pettigrew one hits Crestview, Raiders win 7 – 0

On a cold night in Crestview, Allison ‘Cat’ Pettigrew shutout the Bulldogs on one hit and the Raiders won their first district game, 7 – 0. The only hit against Pettigrew was a weak ground ball up the middle in the sixth inning. She struck out seven while walking three.

5k to honor Santos, benefit colon cancer patients

Lisa Santos wants participants and attendees at the “Raise Your Voice 5k” on Navarre Beach March 1 to celebrate local residents who are currently battling colon cancer. Her son, Josh Lee Santos, died from colon cancer related complications in November 2012 at the age of 24.

Eighteen area businesses showcased their products and services and provided give-a-ways for the attendees.
