Local business helps fire department light up the water

The primary Wave Runner jet ski used by the Navarre Beach Fire Department will now be easily identified as search and rescue when on the water, thanks to a local business. The NBFD recently had fishing lures and lines tossed its way while searching for a missing swimmer last month, and decided to upgrade their water rescue vehicles with flashing lights to make them more identifiable as fire department personnel.

With a strong offense that can put numbers up on the scoreboard, the big question for the 2013 Raider football team is can the defense do their part? “We lost eight or nine players through graduation from last season’s defense,” middle linebacker Monty Thompson said. Fortunately, the Raiders have six returning seniors that played significant roles on the squad last year.

Several students from the Budo Dojo Martial Arts Club in Gulf Breeze traveled to Orlando last month to compete in the U.S. Open World Martial Arts Championships, the largest martial arts competition in the world.

State to sue Georgia over water

APALACHICOLA — Gov. Rick Scott, saying it’s time to fight for the economic future of the Apalachicola Bay region, announced Tuesday that Florida will file a lawsuit against Georgia over its consumption of freshwater in a river system that serves three Southeastern states.

Beach restoration application to be submitted soon

Frustrated by the county’s lack of progress in submitting and receiving grants through National Resource Damage Assessment (NRDA), the Navarre Beach Leaseholders and Residents Association (NBLRA) hired Sonja Negley, of Green Consulting and Solutions, to represent their interests three months ago. Negley updated the NBLRA on August 17 regarding her efforts and the current status of the NRDA grants.
