Area churches did their best to make sure dads felt special June 15. And, if the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, then Risen Savior Lutheran Church and Momentum Church hit the mark in its own special way.
Some might consider this a “slow news” week, but I’m OK with that. We have already had our share of unexpected news in the past few months. There is a chance that by the time you read this Jayer Williamson will be appointed by Governor Rick Scott to sit where his father once sat as a Santa Rosa County Commissioner. It will be great to have our fifth county commissioner back. Jayer has big shoes to fill but the good news is – he knows that. He will faithfully and dutifully serve his seat to the benefit of the citizens of Santa Rosa County. He will be there for us, not for his own personal agenda.
One business that suffered extensive damage from flooding in late April reopened its doors last week, while other businesses that were hit by strong winds in late March continued to struggle with roof leaks and water damage.
Steve “DR” Gardner resigned from the Holley Navarre Water Board after the May 20 meeting that resulted in the firing of The Club at Hidden Creek’s General Manager Dave Taylor. Gardner cited integrity issues with the water board president as his reason for resigning. “He has no integrity, whatsoever,” said Gardner.
The Florida Supreme Court has denied a motion filed on behalf of Navarre Beach leaseholders seeking clarification of the court’s March 20 ruling that confirmed leased land and structures on Navarre Beach could be taxed. The court ruled May 22, about six weeks after the leaseholders’ attorney, Danny Kepner filed the motion for clarification.
The Polk boys from East Milton are well-known and highly respected in local fishing circles for their family tradition of responsible shark fishing. Recently the national media spotlight focused on them after 43-year-old Earnie Polk III and his 29-year-old cousin, Joey, reeled in the largest land-based mako shark ever caught in nearby shallow Gulf waters, catapulting them into history as legendary anglers.

Supporters and opponents of Navarre becoming an incorporated city spoke before the Santa Rosa County Board of Commissioners Monday. Supporters presented the commissioners with petitions, signed by hundreds of residents, who are seeking an opportunity to express their opinion on the issue.
I was at the Holley-Navarre Water Board meeting Tuesday, and I actually met two people that didn’t know that our water department owned The Club at Hidden Creek. And, you guessed it, they are now subscribers…on the spot. I’d like to welcome Ron and Ron to the ranks of informed citizens of the unincorporated area of south Santa Rosa County which if incorporated would be twice the size of all of the incorporated areas of Santa Rosa County. (I will not use their last names because I am NICE and so are they.)
