There is much excitement over projects planned by two groups housed in county property at Navarre Beach County Park. Santa Rosa County Commissioners heard two separate funding requests from the lessees at the July 22 committee meeting.

As a result of new district boundaries established for the Santa Rosa County Commission after the 2010 census, Commissioner Jim Melvin, who currently represents District 4, must face incumbent Bob Cole and other challengers for the District 2 seat, creating an opening in the District 4 seat that represents the Navarre area.

Like a scene right out of “Jack and the Beanstalk,” Navarre residents Matt and Sheila Rogers witnessed the phenomenal growth spurt of a Century plant that now towers with blooms in the backyard of their Sandstone Road home.

County Commission debates Navarre beach bridge options

Santa Rosa County Commissioner Jim Melvin envisions construction of a four-lane bridge connecting Hwy 87 with Gulf Boulevard on Santa Rosa Island as a possible long-term solution for area traffic congestion. Santa Rosa County Commissioners discussed that idea along with other short- and long-term traffic solutions at their July 8 committee meeting, following a presentation about a recent traffic study by county traffic engineering consultant Volkert, Inc.  

Navarre Beachside Church celebrates 18 years

For more than 18 years, Pastor John Kerns has been trading chapels for sunshine and salty air at his “church without walls.” Starting on Memorial Day in 1995, Navarre Beachside Church first got its start as an outreach program.
