The Navarre High School NJROTC Orienteering Team took home 12th place overall at the national competition in Elberton, Ga. March 8 and 9. A total of 22 schools and 331 students from as far away as California competed.
A driver of a semitrailer backed into a transformer behind Wal-Mart in Navarre March 12, causing a fire that damaged the store’s main power supply for more than a day.
Fort Walton Beach dominated the first Raider Invitational meet held on March 5. However, Navarre placed five lifters in the top three positions from the four schools that attended.
Dozens of Navarre High School students took the stage Friday at the school’s annual talent show, which featured singing, instrumental performances, dancing and stand-up comedy. Row after row of seats in the high school cafeteria were filled with parents, relatives and friends of those performing.
The Navarre Beach Area Chamber of Commerce has announced the lineup for the 2014 Thursdays in the Park Summer Concert Series, co-sponsored by Navarre Press. Sophomore Matt Cronin had two impressive relief appearances in Navarre’s pre-season games, but the results were not as good in his starting debut to open the 2014 regular season. Four walks, three stolen bases and two batters reaching base safely after dropped third strikes led to four unearned first inning runs for the Choctaw Indians. The Raiders never recovered. Jeff Rutledge relieved Cronin, but Choctaw added a run in the second on two singles, an error, and a stolen base.
This year’s Navarre Raiders basketball team had two seniors, Gatlin Casey and Blake Malter and the team sent them off in style in their last home game Saturday with a 69 – 59 win over Walton.
