The skimmer season is almost at its end. In just about two weeks most of the chicks found on the Navarre Beach Causeway will have migrated away from the popular nesting location for black skimmers and least turns.
Navarre is home to only one thrift store. The Good Neighbor Thrift Store located on Highway 98 is inspired by the second greatest commandment given by Jesus, “Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself,” as written in the book of Matthew.
Navarre High School science teacher Charlene Mauro was at the White House Aug. 12 to accept the Presidential Innovation Award for Environmental Educator.
Navarre residents Shay Griffin and Nicole Lancaster traveled to Mobile, Ala. for the Heart of Dixie fitness competition Aug. 9. The women, who are friends and mothers, were both successful at the competition where Griffin took first place in open figure A, and Lancaster took third place in open bikini class d.
“I really am trying to do things differently,” said West Navarre Intermediate School Principal David Crissey. He has been busy this summer, busy developing new ideas for his students returning in just a few weeks.
Sgt. Anthony McDaniel was all smiles during a ceremonial groundbreaking Aug.2 in Navarre. McDaniel lost both legs and his left hand when he stepped on an improvised explosive device (IED) in Kajaki, Afghanistan during his second deployment Aug. 31, 2010.
Two grants, totaling nearly $45,000, are helping to grow educational programs, as well as expand the Navarre Beach Sea Turtle Conservation Center. The grants from Santa Rosa County and International Paper are supporting projects for the NBSTCC and the Navarre Beach Marine Sanctuary.
The countdown to the August 26 primary elections has begun. “We’re ready,” exclaimed an enthusiastic Tappie Villane, Santa Rosa County’s supervisor of elections, who attended the Navarre Beach Area Chamber’s candidate forum Monday night. Roughly 65 people gathered at Holley-Navarre Middle School to hear the seven candidates for District 4 county commissioner.
Local authors Jennifer Hentz Moyer and Anne Sanders hosted a joint book signing at Emerald Coast Med Spa July 26 to celebrate the publication of their new books.
