Bridge traffic study results to be released soon

The days of being able to quickly depart Navarre Beach during summer weekends have mostly come to an end.  Lengthy waits to get off Navarre Beach Bridge and onto U.S. Highway 98 are the new normal for the summer season, and many locals are frustrated over it, especially members of the south end committee of the Santa Rosa County Tourist Development Council (TDC).

Gov. Scott calls federal health law a disaster

MIAMI  — It sounds like Republican Gov. Rick Scott is reverting back to his old talking points criticizing the federal health law, after he told a Pensacola radio station Wednesday the law is a “disaster.” His comments come a month after the state Legislative session ended without expanding Medicaid — a move Scott pushed for.

TS Andrea washes away Navarre’s first turtle nest

Nature took its course last Wednesday as high tides from Tropical Storm Andrea washed over the first sea turtle nest of the season on Navarre Beach. The loggerhead sea turtle nest was found last Monday in Beach Access 8, but by Wednesday night the nest was suspected to be completely submerged.

Property tax revenue up slightly 

Santa Rosa Commissioners are gearing up for what is expected to be a contentious budgeting process. Although there was a glimmer of good news brought forth by the 1.04 percent increase estimated for property tax revenues — the first time there has not been a decline since the 2006-2007fiscal year — there is not enough projected revenue to meet budget requests from constitutional officers, such as the Sheriff and Tax Collector.
