Navy veteran Dennis Del Rosario is the newest member of the Midway Fire District after he was sworn in at the Oct. 14 meeting.

A proposed amendment to Florida’s Constitution could generate more than $18 billion over the next two decades for the purchase of additional state conservation and recreation lands. However, Amendment 1 opponents say the measure would restrict state budgeting and could harm local economies by removing private property from tax rolls.

A predatory lionfish was recently spotted in the Gulf of Mexico at the Navarre Beach reef. Now the county plans to permit spearfishing at Navarre Beach Marine Park in an effort to eradicate the invasive species – which packs additional punch with its venomous spines.
