Hwy. 90 site early favorite for courthouse

Commissioners today will cut the field of potential new courthouse sites to two. The board is also set to discuss a couple solid waste and recycling issues, and issues relating to the former Sandy Bottoms store on Navarre Beach.

Sheriff’s office investigates burglaries

The Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office confirms it’s actively investigating residential burglaries in the Navarre area. “We aren’t able to release specific details because it’s an active investigation,” said Rich Aloy, SRCSO spokesman. During the past six months, 42 residential burglaries have been reported in the Navarre area. “Generally burglars operate during daytime hours seeking dwellings that are unoccupied,” Aloy said.

Raiders try to finish season strong

The Navarre Raiders varsity boys’ basketball team has to continue to play hard as the number of remaining games for the season continues to dwindle. The past few games the Raiders have won and lost by only a small margin. The Raiders participated in the Christmas Tournament at Pensacola Catholic over the holiday break. At the tournament, the Raiders beat Gulf Breeze High School 39-38, lost to Washington High 49-42, and lost to Escambia Charter 54-52.

Lady Raiders dominate in weightlifting sub-sectionals

The Raider girls dominated the sub-sectional meet held in Navarre on Jan. 8. The top three lifters in each weight division qualified for the sectional meet to be held at Choctaw on Jan. 22. “We had a pretty good meet,” Coach Garrett Bagley said. “Our goal was for each lifter to get one of the top three spots in each weight class and then move on to the sectionals in two weeks.”

Lady Raider’s winners on senior night

The Raider girls’ soccer team beat Arnold at home 3 – 2 on Jan. 8. For 12 of the girls, the victory was especially sweet since it was senior night. Gabby Armstrong, Taylor Brown, Ella Burkhart, Shelby Clark, Jenny Fitzpatrick, Hannah Gullickson, Hunter Moorer, Mercedes Schmick, Ally Spicer, Jade Whitley, Bri Young and managers Sierra Shepard and Jake Phillips were honored in a ceremony before the game.
