On their 22nd birthday, young adults in Florida who have not earned a diploma age out of the public school system. This is also true for young adults with developmental disabilities. Local parents who have children with various disabilities including autism, cerebral palsy and muscular dystrophy have started a group – Hope HEALS (Helping Exceptional Adults Live Successfully). Their goal is to provide support for local families with children who have aged out of the school system, as well as develop a stronger sense of understanding and involvement within the community for these young adults.
