Sea turtle nesting season is back on Navarre Beach

All is quiet on Navarre Beach, for now.

The four mile stretch of sand, laden with condos, beach equipment and people, is also home to sea turtle eggs each summer and early fall. Beginning May 1 and running through the end of October, sea turtles, namely Loggerheads, scoot up on Navarre Beach to lay their nests. This year’s season has started without any action.

Judge orders steps to aid manatees

Tallahassee – A federal judge Monday ordered the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to take a series of steps aimed at protecting manatees in the northern Indian River Lagoon, including requiring it to go through a federal permitting process and temporarily preventing new septic tanks in the area.
