Incorporation straw poll decision today

Navarre residents representing “Citizens to Incorporate Navarre” attended the Monday Santa Rosa County Commission meeting and brought a petition with more than 800 signatures in support of placing a non-binding straw poll on the August ballot in hopes of determining whether or not the community supports moving forward with the incorporation process. They also asked for $27,500 to fund a Feasibility Study that will be required by the Florida State Legislature.

Administrator admits 2007 decision was “incorrect”

Santa Rosa County was offered but did not pursue more than $3 million in stormwater mitigation funding for Holley By The Sea in 2007. The county cites a required $1.86 million cost share as the reason. County Administrator Hunter Walker says in hindsight that was an incorrect decision.

2014 Relay participants enjoy good weather

Organizers hoped for better weather this year in Navarre than what Relay for Life participants and volunteers had to contend with last year. The 2013 event saw rain, wind and chilly conditions. The 2014 closing ceremony at Navarre High School was held under bright sunshine.

Santa Rosa County Commissioners are planning a special evening meeting at Tiger Point Community Center to discuss the proposed judicial center. Scheduling information is expected to be announced at today’s board meeting, and commissioners are expected to take action on several agenda items.

United Way adds brand development specialist

Anja Machado recently joined the United Way of Santa Rosa County as a brand development specialist. “I see living within Santa Rosa County very caring people willing to unite in order to answer on a large scale the prayers of people in need,” she said. “I believe United Way offers the best opportunity for impacting the most people in need within our neighborhoods.”
