RESTORE council making progress

The Santa Rosa County RESTORE council is making more progress toward formalizing proposed evaluation criteria to be used for recommending projects submitted to the county for funding through monies received related to the BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill.  At the Nov. 14 meeting council members were presented with a draft of weighted criteria for four funding categories:  environment, economic development, infrastructure and tourism.

Jake Dunlop, a member of the North Carolina Radio Broadcasters Hall of Fame, began learning the radio and television directors’ trade in 1949. In 1950, he  became TV director for WOITV in Iowa. And at the time of his retirement from television in 1992, Jake was Director of the North Carolina Public Television Network.

County leases special voting equipment

During the annual county budgeting process, Supervisor of Elections Tappie Villane requested an increase in funding attributed to the upcoming 2014 election cycle.  One significant increase Villane noted during her July presentation to county commissioners was the leasing of special equipment for voters with disabilities or conditions which make it difficult to mark a traditional ballot.
