Green Sea Turtles removed from endangered list

Green sea turtles are one of the four kinds of sea turtles which nest along the sugar-white sands of Navarre Beach. Long listed as an endangered species, green sea turtles were recently reclassified as being of “least concern” on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.

Bay scallop season opens Aug. 16 in the Gulf County Zone

The 2025 recreational bay scallop season for the Gulf County Zone (including all of St. Joseph Bay) opens Aug. 16 and will remain open through Sept. 24. This region includes all state waters from the Mexico Beach Canal in Bay County to the westernmost point of St. Vincent Island in Franklin County.

Record 126-day Gulf red snapper recreational season announced for Florida

At a news conference in Destin, Gov. Ron DeSantis was excited to announce the longest Gulf red snapper season in Florida’s history.
The 126-day recreational season for Gulf red snapper will begin Memorial Day weekend (May 24-26) and reopen June 1 through July 31 before closing again. It will restart in September and end Christmas weekend, with periodic pauses in between.
