East Bay K8, Holley Navarre Middle School receive FWC fishing club grants

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) will issue a School Fishing Club Grant to 50 schools for the upcoming school year, two of which are in Santa Rosa County. The School Fishing Club Program is an annual educational grant program that teaches youth anglers about best fishing practices to help ensure the future of fishing in Florida.

Fishing rodeo celebrates 10th year

The Okaloosa Gas Navarre Fishing Rodeo is celebrating its 10th anniversary of the first weekend in October. This year’s event will take place Oct. 1 and 2 in conjunction with Santa Rosa County’s Fish Navarre Weekend.

Admission to the Navarre Beach Pier is free for the event weekend and, as a bonus, Santa Rosa County will offer a 10% discount on annual walking and fishing passes. This is the only time during the year that the annual passes are discounted. For more information see FishNavarreWeekend.com.

Fishing Line Recovery and Recycling makes new splash at Navarre Pier

As part of the Responsible Pier Initiative, the Navarre Beach Sea Turtle Conservation Center has taken the lead, along with the UF/IFAS Santa Rosa County Florida Sea Grant Extension Office, on Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation’s Monofilament Recovery and Recycling & Program to further educate and encourage anglers’ help.
