A line of thunderstorms Friday packing winds estimated at 60 mph or more damaged Santa Rosa County facilities on Navarre Beach leaving lifeguards with only one usable lifeguard stand from which to monitor the beach and swimmers in the Gulf of Mexico.

Commissioner Williamson to retire

Health problems are once again affecting longtime Santa Rosa County Commissioner Jim Williamson, a liver transplant recipient who has been absent from commission meetings since December. He is expected to retire this week, and discussions about a possible replacement have eyes turning toward his youngest son, Jayer – who is being suggested for an appointment to the District 1 seat.

Kathy Rohrig’s fourth-graders at West Navarre Primary had achieved their reading goals and to celebrate a “mystery reader” was going to visit the class March 7 and read Dr. Seuss’ “Happy Birthday to You” story. Rohrig had arranged for Whitney Psinas, the mother of 7-year-old Addison, to be the “mystery reader,” however, about two weeks before the event plans changed.
