In a classic case of “If first you don’t succeed, try, try again,” members of the Navarre Garden Club, along with active duty and retired military personnel happily unveiled May 16 a new Blue Star Memorial Highway marker in Navarre Park. The national program honors all men and women who serve our country and the local marker designates Highway 98

Milton church premiers new film

A movie billed as a “modern day prodigal son story” debuted in two churches nationwide May 16 and one was the Hickory Hill Baptist Church near Milton. Pam Gallups from Hickory Hill said Pastor Carl Gallups is personal friends with “A Long Way Off” Executive Producer Jerry McGlothlin and that made the local advanced screening possible.

Governor recognizes Navarre teacher

Fla. Gov. Rick Scott during a Florida Cabinet meeting May 13 recognized nine outstanding educators for their contributions to learning, and Holley-Navarre Intermediate  teacher Danielle Clark was one of them. Each teacher was presented with the Governor’s Shine Award.

Songwriter festival a hit

The Second Annual Navarre Beach Songwriter Festival was held May 16 – 18 at five venues in the Navarre area. The event featured singer-songwriters from the local area, as well as other who traveled from as far away as Nashville, Tennessee.

Airports gear up for season

As the Emerald Coast prepares for the peak of tourist season, Pensacola International Airport will have 13 percent more seats available for passengers than last year. Airport Manager Greg Donavon said the increase means 5,700 seats will be available each day starting in June.

Gulf Breeze forms Stormwater Task Force

To begin to address its stormwater drainage problem, the City of Gulf Breeze will form a Stormwater Task Force of experts to study the drainage in the area and identify long-term solutions.
