The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) has investigated six reports of Formosan termites in Santa Rosa County during the first quarter of 2014. If the trend continues, the number of Formosan termite infestations would be 10 higher than last year’s total of 14.

Fins for Fisher House

Five three-man teams of divers – three Army and two Navy – hit the Santa Rosa Sound in Navarre at about 8 a.m. Saturday heading off on a 25k race to raise money for the Fisher House of the Emerald Coast. The Navarre Beach Volleyball Club (NBVC) is offering a 14-week beach volleyball training program starting April 14 at Juana’s Pagodas/Sailors’ Grill. The program is designed for boys ages 9 – 14 and girls 9 – 17.

Mary Esther man faces 120 years for sex crimes

Brandon Cade Gillreath was sentenced to the Department of Corrections to serve four consecutive 30-year sentences upon completion of his previously imposed 30 year federal sentence. According to a news release from State Attorney Williams Eddins, the sentence arose from Gillreath pleading guilty April 3 to four counts of attempted sexual battery with a victim less than 12-years-old. Circuit Judge William Stone also designated Gillreath a Sexual Predator during the sentencing.

According to the Florida Public Archaeology Network (FPAN), more than 300 ships have wrecked in and around Pensacola Bay, and they provide great habitat for sea life, as well as recreational opportunities for divers and snorkelers.
