Owner of Mexican restaurants in Pace, Gulf Breeze charged with fraud by feds

The owner of several Mexican restaurants in Northwest Florida and Alabama has been ar-rested on a slew of charges related to the mishandling of COVID-19 era federal loans.
Cesar Campos-Reyes, 52, is charged with four counts of bank fraud, four counts of wire fraud and one count of money laundering. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Alabama, the charges stem from an alleged scheme involving federal program fraud.

American Legion Post 382, located on E Esplanade Street in Navarre, was preparing to house Flags of Honor Escorts, a veterans’ motorcycle group, for the night, Friday, April 4. The group, which had close to a dozen members stop by Navarre, had just held a memorial service at Pensacola’s Veterans Memorial Park to honor Gold Star families and servicemembers who paid the ultimate sacrifice.

Tricare online patient portal closing April 1

On April 1, the TRICARE Online Patient Portal will no longer be available. The Department of Defense’s new electronic health record — MHS GENESIS — has replaced the TOL Patient Portal. As part of the transition, the DoD is decommissioning the TOL Patient Portal. 

House speaker calls for sales-tax cut

Tallahassee – House Speaker Daniel Perez said Mar. 26 he wants to lower the state’s sales-tax rate, trimming revenue by almost $5 billion a year.

Perez, R-Miami, told House members he has directed Ways & Means Chairman Wyman Duggan, R-Jacksonville, to produce a bill next week that would lower the rate from 6 percent to 5.25 percent.
