Santa Rosa jail flooded with Escambia inmates after deadly post-flood explosion

Around 600 inmates were inside the Escambia County jail when an April 30 explosion crippled the building, killing two inmates and requiring the hospitalization of 184 people, including one correctional officer who was paralyzed in the incident. Some inmates reported smelling natural gas prior to the 11 p.m. blast. More than 200 female inmates were transferred to Santa Rosa County jail afterward.
