Santa Rosa County School Board recognizes Sunshine State Scholars

The Santa Rosa County School Board took time during their Thursday, Jan. 16, meeting to honor a group of six high school students who have been recognized a Sunshine State Scholars.

Jacob Martin of Central School, Anna Lu of Gulf Breeze High School, Major Rowell of Jay High School, Jackson Sanborn of Milton High School, Gianna Scheno of Navarre High School, and Adam Penrod of Pace High School were the students named as nominees for Sunshine State Scholar. Sanborn and Penrod were selected as the district’s 2025 Sunshine State Scholars, with Martin selected as an alternate.

The Sunshine State Scholars Program targets juniors interested in STEM related fields. These students hold a weighted GPA of 3.9 or higher and are on track according to current guidelines for Bright Futures Scholars.
