Rescue dogs gain new life in law enforcement

Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy Zoey and Gainesville Police Officer Jet serve two roles in fighting and preventing crime in the community.
Alachua County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Nigel Lowe, left, is the handler of the recently adopted rescue hound, Zoey, shown in Lowe’s office at the ACSO in Gainesville, Fla. Zoey was due for euthanasia, but joined the K-9 unit after being rescued by a group in Texas. Sgt. Lowe uses the drug sniffing K-9 at several area middle and high schools.
