Public Notice # 2388 – Virtual Open House – Jacobs

June 04, 2021

Naval Air Station Whiting Field Florida Outlying Landing Fields Drinking Water Sampling Information

Virtual Open House

Residents near Outlying Landing Fields (OLFs) in Florida associated with Naval Air Station (NAS) Whiting Field and other interested parties are invited to attend a Virtual Open House on the internet to learn about the Navy’s offer to test drinking water from wells in designated sampling areas near these Outlying Landing Fields. The Navy is testing for certain per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), which may be present in these drinking water wells due to past uses on-base of aqueous film-forming foam (AFFF), or other PFAS-containing materials. The Navy developed a proactive policy to address past releases of PFAS at installations nationwide, as several PFAS are now of emerging public health concern.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Navy will be hosting a Virtual Open House on the internet in lieu of an in-person Open House. We invite you to attend the Virtual Open House from June 4 through August 2021, at https://WhitingFieldPFAS.com. We will have information available on the project background and the drinking water well sampling. On the Virtual Open House website, you can also schedule a drinking water well sampling appointment.

The Navy is working in partnership with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and the Florida Department of Health.

If you are not able to access the Virtual Open House website, please contact the Navy via email, whtg_naswf_pao.fct@navy.mil, or via telephone, 844-NASWFLD (844-627-9353) to have the Virtual Open House materials provided to you via U.S. mail or email.

For additional information regarding PFAS, you may visit the project website at http://go.usa.gov/xAEQF.
