Prescribed Burn Scheduled for East Bay River Nature Preserve in Navarre Wednesday, March 12

| Staff Reporters
The Santa Rosa County Soil Conservation Department in partnership with Gulf Coastal Plains Ecosystem Partnership (GCPEP) plan to conduct a prescribed burn of 44 acres within the East Bay River Nature Preserve (Creets Landing) near the end of Crescent Wood Road in Navarre on Wednesday, March 12.
44 acres near East River will undergo a prescribed burn this week.

This burn will be conducted only under proper weather conditions and with approval from the Florida Forest Service. Prescribed fire personnel will be on site. The Soil Conservation Department will review Wednesday morning’s weather conditions to determine if the burn will take place. An update will be sent out if the prescribed burn is cancelled.

Why prescribed burns are important:

Prescribed fire plays a critical role in reducing the accumulation of vegetative fuel, which can become dangerously high and increase the risk of wildfire. Prescribed fires reduce these fuel levels under controlled conditions and improves the areas that support many of Florida’s rare and endangered plant and animal species that rely on prescribed fires in order to thrive.
