Off the hook: Commission denies intent to change shark fishing restrictions at Navarre Beach

The Santa Rosa County Commission has, and had, no plans to restrict shark fishing on Navarre Beach, according to Chairman Colten Wright. But area anglers are worried that a staff plan to add swimming areas along the 4-mile length of the beach would do just that.
Navarre fisherman Bryan Tena tells the Santa Rosa County Commission that drowning is a far greater threat to tourists than sharks. Tena was one of several anglers in attendance to express concern about a staff proposal to add swimming areas – which would limit opportunities for surf fishing.
