Navarre Beach Fire rescues kayakers during December storm

Sunday morning, Dec. 14, at approximately 9 a.m., firefighters with Navarre Beach Fire Rescue District were dispatched to assist two kayakers in distress offshore.

The kayakers, described as experienced paddlers, became disoriented after a strong storm moved in unexpectedly.

Initially believed to be approximately one mile offshore, the individuals had unknowingly paddled in the wrong direction and were ultimately located nearly four miles offshore.

Station 49 launched Ski 49, with Captain Arsenault responding. Upon arrival, Captain Arsenault entered the water, secured both kayaks and safely guided the individuals back to shore.

No injuries were reported.

According to NBFRD, this incident highlights the importance of monitoring weather conditions and the dedication of Station 49 crews to ensuring public safety on the water.
