On Feb. 25, at approximately midnight, deputies responded to a 911 call reporting a cutting incident at the residence. Upon arrival, deputies located the suspect, April Oliva, 40 years old, lying with the body of the 6-year-old victim. The child was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Major Crimes Unit investigators were notified and have assumed responsibility for the investigation.
April Oliva sustained injuries during the incident and was transported to a local hospital, where she is currently receiving medical treatment. A warrant has been issued for her arrest on a charge of murder in connection with the death of her daughter.
She was arrested and booked into Santa Rosa County Jail at 8:05 a.m. on Feb. 25.
This investigation remains active and ongoing.
“This is a deeply tragic case, and our thoughts are with all those affected,” the agency said in a statement.
