Lewis Funeral Home, honoring life with compassion
A family tradition of service since 1928
The story of Lewis Funeral Home begins nearly 100 years ago. What started in 1928 as Wolfe Funeral Home in Milton has grown into a trusted establishment serving multiple communities. Over generations, leadership has passed through dedicated family hands, expanding thoughtfully while staying true to its founding ethos of personal, respectful service. Today, Sam and Mike Lewis continue this legacy, building on decades of trusted care and community presence.
“Our firm was founded by the late L. Douglas Wolfe in 1928, my grandfather. In 1938 my mother, Dorothy Wolfe, married my father, Avis C. Lewis,” said co-owner and licensed funeral director Michael S. Lewis. “After World War II, upon my father’s return from Europe, the name was changed to Wolfe-Lewis Funeral Home. It again was changed in 1972, when my father took on a new partner, Donnie H. Sowell. Mr. Sowell left in 1982, and the name changed, yet again, to the current Lewis Funeral Home.”
Being family-owned isn’t just a business structure — it’s a heartfelt commitment. At Lewis Funeral Home, every family is treated with the same compassion that the Lewis family would extend to their own. Their dedication is reflected in strong community trust and longstanding relationships that span generations.
Compassionate, personalized funeral services
Losing a loved one is never easy, but the caring professionals at Lewis Funeral Home are there to ease the burden during this emotional time. Their experienced staff helps families plan funeral, memorial, and celebration of life services that truly reflect the life lived — regardless of cultural, religious, or personal preferences.
Whether you are considering traditional funeral arrangements, cremation services, or pre-planning, Lewis Funeral Home offers guidance tailored to your needs. Their team ensures every detail is handled with respect, giving families the space to grieve, remember, and find comfort.
Support beyond the service
Lewis Funeral Home’s dedication extends beyond funeral day. Understanding that grief doesn’t end with a service, they offer grief support resources designed to help families navigate the emotional journey that follows a loss. Through ongoing support tools — including their “365 Days of Healing” email program — they stand with families long after the ceremony ends.
The funeral home also offers a full range of memorial gifts and keepsakes that allow families to honor and remember their loved ones in meaningful ways. These thoughtful touches provide comfort and a way to cherish memories for years to come.
Multiple welcoming locations
Convenience and community access are central to Lewis Funeral Home’s service. With four welcoming chapels — Milton, Pace, Navarre, and the Jay Cornerstone Chapel — families throughout Santa Rosa County and surrounding areas can find compassionate care close to home. Each location is designed to feel warm and comforting, providing a peaceful setting for families to gather and celebrate cherished lives.
“Our original funeral home was located in downtown Milton and opened in 1928. We moved to our current location on Highway 90, in 1974. We expanded to Navarre in 1991, to Pace in 2007, and finally to Jay in late 2022,” Mike added.
The team at Lewis Funeral Home is passionate about the care they provide during life’s most difficult days. Their compassion, care and service set them apart from the rest.
“We are able to guide the families that choose us through what is typically a very difficult time of their lives – a time that life gives little experience with,” Mike said. “My favorite part of my job is knowing that the team of people that we have helping each director provides the true compassion that each family requires.”
In moments when families need guidance the most, Lewis Funeral Home offers not just services, but genuine support — celebrating life, honoring legacy, and accompanying every family with care that feels like family.
